Old Town and riverfront walk
Start at Prešeren Square and follow the pedestrian route across Triple Bridge into the historic center. Continue along Stritarjeva Street toward Ljubljana Cathedral, then turn through the lanes around Town Square to see the Baroque Ljubljana Town Hall. End beside the river at Cobbler's Bridge. This compact introduction works well on foot and leaves time for a relaxed coffee stop along the Ljubljanica.
Castle hill exploration
From Krek Square, take the short uphill route to Ljubljana Castle. Explore the courtyard, castle ramparts, museum areas, and the lookout tower if open. The climb is manageable, but you can use the castle funicular for one leg if you prefer to save energy. From the summit, look across Ljubljana toward the Alps on a clear day. Weather matters for the best views, and tower access can have separate opening times.

From Butchers' Bridge, follow the river west to Triple Bridge, then continue to Congress Square. Pause at the University of Ljubljana before walking through Kongresni Trg Park. This route highlights Plečnik's ability to shape public spaces, bridges, and river edges into one coherent cityscape.
