The story behind the place
Boscoincittà began in 1974 as an ambitious urban forestry project promoted by Italia Nostra on land granted by the Municipality of Milan. The park’s identity is tied to that origin: instead of a formal city garden, it was designed and gradually shaped as a living landscape of woods, meadows, water features, allotments and wildlife-friendly spaces. Official descriptions emphasize that the sense of being “outside the city” is intentional, even though the park sits in Milan’s west side near San Siro. Over time it became a model of public green space that mixes recreation with environmental care, and the city and tourism sites still present it as a place to walk, run, picnic and explore nature in an urban setting.
